A Looking Back: Uncle James Comes to Town

The last weekend of August my brother and his fiance came to town to visit. (Did you catch that? She is no longer "my brother's girlfriend" Oh no! She is now "his fiance". They became engaged over the summer - YAY!) James had tickets to the University of Oregon football game so they decided to get a hotel here and then travel the 2 additional hours both to and from the game on Saturday. This means we were able to spend time with them Friday afternoon and evening and then again on Sunday before they headed back home. Believe it or not, we crammed a lot into those hours!

When they arrived on Friday, we hung out at our house for a few hours catching up and sharing stories. From there we were supposed to all go out to dinner but Kaylen decided to have a major meltdown and didn't want to go. Dakota and she stayed home for some much needed alone time. (Kaylen is having a hard time with Dakota being gone so much and it was the first week of classes - which was especially challenging.) So, Kelton and I went off with James and Cara. After dinner, we went over to our mall and "the boys" went off to play GlowGolf while "the girls" wandered around the mall. Kelton craves "hanging with the guys" time so it worked out perfectly.

The next morning James and Cara headed down to Eugene for the game. The kids and I hung out together while Dakota studied and then in the afternoon we headed into Portland to explore an area of town we'd never before been. It was a fun way to spend the afternoon.

Sunday we met up with James and Cara again around 10:30AM. It had been a very late night for them and they didn't get back to the hotel until 2AM...and yes, it was a good game! Go Ducks! :) We all decided to head over to Portland to visit the new Duck Store (as in the U of O mascot) where James was all too happy to buy his niece and nephew U of O gear. After that, we wandered around the Saturday Market and then headed out to lunch. Before long, we were saying good-bye and James and Cara were on their way home. We were all sad to see them go - it's so much fun having people come to visit. As the kids say "It's more fun to have someone else sit in the car for hours and hours!" :)

Here are a few photos from the weekend:
