Truth is Stranger than Fiction

I was just now talking on the phone with my dad while the kids are out playing in the yard (or shall we just call it what it is: the mud field). And then...a knock on the door.

I ask my dad to hold on a second and I answer it to find a woman standing there with the screen door open (which personally I find wrong. I have a screen door for a reason. Don't open it! If I want you to gain access to my house, I will open it and invite you in.). The woman looks me up and down and then says, "Is Dawson here?"

I look perplexed and say "I'm sorry but you have the wrong house. There is no Dawson here." (and just why am *I* sorry?)

And here is where it gets good: She gets huffy with me! Seriously. She acts all put out, turns on her high heels and walks away as she mutters under her breath.

Like it's MY fault she has the wrong house???

Sheesh!

I'll tell ya Casey, I too have had a perplexing day! People are odd to-say-the-least:)

Very strange, I just had to comment because I have never known what to do with the screen doors. I never ring a doorbell if I think there is any chance of a nap being taken so in order to knock, you have to open them. I always feel awkward so I guess now I know to close it again. It's just one of those funny things that I have never known how to deal with.

gah! that's even ruder than when people get mad for getting a wrong number when they call you instead of whoever it was they wanted!

Perrin: For me, I also have the added stress of having one or two dogs to hold back at the door so if the screen is closed when I open the door at least I know the dog(s) won't escape nor will they actually reach the person on the porch. Also - I like to think of it as a barrier of sorts between me and whoever it is. I don't have a peep hole or a window I can see out of to see who is waiting for me on the other side of the door so knowing I have the screen gives me a (false) sense of security.

I just may well be an exception. :)

When I run up against a screen door at someone's house, I do the "open to knock and then close it again" thing because like you, I don't like ringing doorbells just in case someone is sleeping.

I have noticed a big lack of screen doors though. Most people just don't have them anymore - at least not here. I love having one - just for the extra security of keeping children and pets in when I answer the door.

I have a screen door that locks, so lovely visitors, invited or not, can't get to me until I unlock the door for them. Nice to have now that I'm a single parent. Its not one of those deadbolt, steel ones. But it does the job of putting at least a little barrier (i.e. time to escape) between me and bad guys outside.

And yes, what a rude woman!

I ALWAYS keep my screen door locked. I am with you, do NOT open the screen door people! I actually have gotten to the point lately where I don't answer the door much. It's just me and the kids at home and unless I am expecting someone I just don't want to deal with nonsense or strangers!

That IS strange! I hate people who invade personal space (as in open a screendoor) AND who get huffy.
