Oh Just Grow Up!
To be fair, I will tell you that I have not watched the debate. I have it on the DVR and I will but last night I was way too tired (I didn't even get home until after it was over). It was a crazy busy on-the-go day for me which included Grandma coming over to care of Kaylen in the afternoon and our new babysitter coming in the evening to watch both kids. I felt like I hardly saw either one of them yesterday. Strange.
Today is almost as busy - in fact, the whole week is crammed full. I mistakenly believed life would be much more calm with only one child to care for during the school day but instead, I am about 10 times as busy.
But anyway - about the above video. There are snip-its that I've heard about the debate and I couldn't believe when people started saying McCain blew off a handshake but there it is (it's kind of like "The handshake blow-off heard around the world. Huge mistake, dude. HUGE!). A grown man who is clearly sulking and, in my opinion, being completely disrespectful and childish. Grow up, already.
And umm...healthcare is a responsibility? Yes, on the side of making sure you are going in to your appointments to get your check ups and whatnot but in the coverage itself? Are you smoking crack, McCain? It's a frikkin' RIGHT to have healthcare coverage and as for shopping for my own, as well as the kids, in all my spare time? No thanks. And really - the average policy costs $12,000 a year. How in the world would people find good coverage (at least equal to what they have) for less than half of that? Join the real world, my friend.

Hate to bust your bubble....I wouldn't shake obama's hand either.......
I heard it was pretty childish but I didn't watch it either.
Mimi: Then I guess I could say the same to you. Whatever happened to common courtesy?
You EARN respect and in my heart obama hasn't earned anything....
Fine. Forget about respect. I say again "What about common courtesy? Good manners."
No wonder there are so many rude people in the world - people seem to be ok with forgetting their manners. Sad.
Call me unschooled and all but I've always thought a handshake was part of formal communication as in "hello, goodbye, thank you". Respect or agreement really isn't the issue. In this case, it would be seen as "thank you for this opportunity to debate." Whether sincere or not, it is still part of polite interactions. If we all decided to only use manners with those we respect, it would be a sorry world indeed.
(and since I know comment don't count unless they are signed)

L and Casey -
You said it, rules of common courtesy should prevail here, especially in a professional debate. So, if McCain does not agree with or share the same values with a foreign official, will he just refuse to shake his hand?
Bad form, John, bad form.
But seriously, I really thought the debate here would have been "is health care a right or a responsibility?" Maybe that means the "non committed" don't think it is a responsiblity?

Not an McCain fan...but I was shocked by the video. I then did a little research and found this:

So...they DID shake hands. This video is kind of taken out of context as they had already shaken hands and McCain was just offering up his wife or whatever.
This whole election scares the crap out of me...no matter what I don't think it will end well. A man was killed today for wearing an Obama shirt, what will happen when he is elected...so many crazy's will want to kill him.
Declan's Mom: Thanks for the info on the handshake. Glad to know he wasn't a complete jerk.
As for the man who was shot - he was not killed. He was indeed shot three times though and this happened in London. There is a photo of him along with the article at: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1070975/Man-shot-times-street-racist-gunman--wearing-Barack-Obama-T-shirt.html?ITO=1490
There are people who will try to kill if that is there intent but we cannot live in fear or things will never change. And we have to have change or things will never change.
