Just pass that Mother of the Year award over here.
Yep - it's true. The princess is sporting a black eye. She has been crawling around like a wild woman these days and this evening was no different. I had her in the kitchen with me while I was doing the dinner dishes. In the blink of an eye she was in the diningroom and in another blink she was screaming. See....we have this step down into the livingroom from both the foyer and the diningroom and it never fails that crawling children take a header (or two, three or four) off the step before they learn to scoot down backwards. She has not yet learned the scoot down backwards.
Unfortunately, she didn't fall off in the open area. No, not my girl. Instead, she took a header off the step and landed face first on the pointer rocker of my antique rocking chair. An eigth of an inch more and I think she might have poked her eye out. As it is, she has a large angry red scratch on her temple and a nice bruise right at the corner of her eye.
Oh yeah - nothing says "I take good care of my kids" like a big old ugly black eye on a 7 month old. *sigh*

poor baby :-( My son (8 months old, second child) has had more bumps and bruises then I ever would have imagined. At one point it looked like he was sprouting horns because he had two bruises on his head where horns would be.
I enjoy the pics of the kids, they're little cuties!
Ouch! Poor girl! If it helps, E has a black eye right now too...due to a MOSQUITO BITE if you can believe it. Poor guy, the ONLY part of his body he doesnt' get covered in bug spray and the little determined sucker found him.
You are not a bad mommy, things happen. Think of it this way, its Mother Nature's way of teaching her that backwards scooting is a GOOD thing. E never did manage to learn that.
Oh Casey, I'm sure you feel horrible. It was an accident and she will LEARN that doing that hurts. She'll be okay, and so will you soon. Big hugs!
Don't feel bad casey... every kid has to get a black eye sooner or later. I do have an amusing story about people assuming my own mother did not deserve the mother of the year award...
I was born with a club foot. As soon as I was born docotors rushed me offto surgery to fix it and try and straighten out my little foot. As a result of this surgery I spent several yearsa to follow with either casts or braces on my foot. At one particular point I have a cast on it, and some woman had the balls to walk up to me in the grocery store and say. "Oh, you poor baby what did your mommy do to you?" at that, I am told.... my grandmother and my aunt had to hold my momma back or else she would have clocked this woman in the face.
Anyway, people are stupid... kids get hurt. And I'd still vote for you as mother of the year... right after Jean and E of course.
Poor sweetie!!!! But please don't beat yourself up, these things happen. And nothing beats a cast on an 11 month old to advertise your mothering abilities, uh not that I would know anything about that.
