It's Cheese Factory Day! Ok, to be fair, I was mostly just curious about going there because our first visit was so completely and utterly boring and yet, people seem to enjoy going.
I just couldn't help it. I *had* to go back. And I'm actually glad I did. It was a school day, off season and slow. Perfect! There were hardly any other people there at 9AM but the factory itself was busy working. We watched people working and we read all the informational displays. It was actually very interesting which drives me to the conclusion that one suffering from PPD with a 5 month old and a 3 year old just two weeks away from her pertner starting law school really has no business going to places like this in the middle of the summer season. :)
This time around, the kids were the perfect age to understand and ask questions and since Tillamook cheese is the brand we buy, learning why there is a ship on the package is a bit of trivia we all now possess. :) Kaylen has been asking why some cheese has holes in it and, after our visit, I actually know why. :)
After the Cheese Factory we went to the house (10 minutes away) and take care of a few things and then headed into Rockaway (5 minutes the other directions). I have to say, Rockaway is one of the dullest towns ever... which if you are going just for the beach is fine but if you are going to want to actually be out and about, just isn't all that great. We went to Flamingo Jim's which is always good for tourist-y stuff and then we hit the Picnic Basket which is my favorite place to find divinity fudge. (There is another Picnic Basket in Cannon Beach.) Then we stopped in at one other shop and bought the kids 4" kites for $2.99 each.
At the other end of town is a place to get smoked salmon which Dakota loves, so we went there. It was raining off and on but it wasn't too terrible. After that, we had no real plans and it was too rainy at that time to go to the beach so we decided to drive in and spend the rest of the day in Cannon Beach and Seaside - and bonus! No rain!
We had a great afternoon, even running into the neighbor boy and his family, and finally headed back around 6:00. We hit the highway and almost immediately Kelton announces that he has to go the bathroom. Okay then. Hmmm.....I pull off at the Tolavana exit knowing there was a public restroom at the beach park. Which of course brought the question of: "Can we play for a little while?" We had our coats and sand stuff so why not? We ended up staying for almost two hours! Big fun!
We finally packed it in and headed back to the house with plans of going to Lincoln City the next day. Both kids had decided they wanted to go to the casino's child watch play place which meant FREE TIME for Dakota and I.
We got them happily off to bed after a snack of popcorn and milk and soon they were sleeping peacefully.....until 11:30pm when all heck broke loose! Kaylen was sleeping fitfully and before I knew it - she was throwing up all over the place.
Oh yes indeed! All I can say is thank goodness there was a washer and dryer. Clearly, plans for tomorrow just went up on a cloud of smoke.
Next up: The trip home....that wasn't.

Sounds like a tasty, and fun, day. Do they have cheese curd there?
Tanya: They sure do! :)
I really wanted to stop at the cheese factory when we were on our way up there!
